MCPE Passes Resolution Supporting CMS 2007 Bonds

The Board of Directors for Mecklenburg Citizens for Public Education passed a resolution supporting the $516 million bond for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Mecklenburg County voters will vote on this bond November 6, 2007. Click here for a copy of this MCPE Bond Resolution.


 

Mecklenburg Citizens for
Public Education Formed

On August 29, 2006, four organizations announced the formation of a new player on the education front in our community: Mecklenburg Citizens for Public Education, an entity that consolidates the resources and programmatic work of these organizations. These four nonprofit education entities include Charlotte Advocates for Education, the Education Program of the Charlotte Chamber, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Schools Foundation, and the Task Force on CMS.

Mecklenburg Citizens for Public Education (MCPE) will serve as an advocate for public school education and as a catalyst for necessary changes to ensure quality education for all students within CMS by:

Serving as an advocate for public school

Serving as influencers and catalysts for reform

Mecklenburg Citizens for Public Education has a responsibility to residents of Charlotte-Mecklenburg and takes this responsibility seriously always seeking to:
*
Engage the community in as many ways as possible
*
Provide transparency in its work and processes
*
Serve as a trusted education resource.

Dr. James H. Woodward, chancellor emeritus of UNC Charlotte, has been named as the Chairman for the Board of Directors for this new organization. Twenty-three (23) other individuals reflecting the rich diversity of our community were also named to serve on this Board of Directors.
